Gatlinburg Horseback Riding

Gatlinburg horseback riding offers a different perspective of the Smokies for both the novice and experienced rider. You'll enjoy some of the most scenic horseback riding in Tennessee, through woods and past cascading streams. Maybe you'll even catch a glimpse of some of the abundant wildlife in these mountains.

There are two riding stables in the Great Smoky Mountains National Park that are easily accessible from Gatlinburg. Both are authorized concessions of the National Park Service and offer guided rides on park trails.

At both stables, children must be 5 years or older, and the maximum weight limit is 225 pounds. They're open 7 days a week, but hours vary with the season, and the stables are closed during the winter months, generally from about mid-November through mid-March. Prices start at an hourly rate of about $20 per person.

  • Smoky Mountain Riding Stables is located inside the national park, 4 miles east of Gatlinburg, Tennessee on Highway 321 (East Parkway, traffic light #3). (865) 436-5634.
  • Sugarlands Riding Stables, is located .5 miles north of the Sugarlands Visitor Center, on Newfound Gap Road (U.S. 441) approximately 1.5 miles south of Gatlinburg, Tennessee. (865) 436-3535.
